Xiaomi held a launch event in China yesterday where it took the wraps off its latest Xiaomi 17 Ultra and the 17 Ultra Leica Edition smartphones. While both phones pack the same internals, such as 200MP triple cameras, the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, and a massive 6,800mAh battery, the special Leica Edition offers premium additions, including a mechanical zoom ring and Leica M-series camera features. Xiaomi 17 Ultra key features, specs
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra arrives with a massive 6.9-inch AMOLED screen that offers 2K resolution, up to a 120Hz refresh rate, peak brightness of 3,500 nits, and an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor. The screen is shielded by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal 3.0, and its body offers IP68/69-level dust and water resistance.
Moving on to the cameras, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra has an autofocus-enabled 50MP camera on the front, while its back panel features a 1-inch 50MP OmniVision Light Fusion 1050L sensor. The Leica-optimised rear setup also includes a 50MP Samsung JN5 ultra-wide camera with autofocus support and a 200MP Samsung HPE periscope telephoto camera with 3.2x to 4.3x continuous optical zoom support.
Under the hood is the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, paired with LPDDR5x RAM, UFS 4.1 storage, and a massive 6,800mAh battery. The phone supports 90W wired and 50W wireless charging and runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Other features onboard include eSIM support, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, an IR blaster, satellite communication, and dual speakers.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition brings next-level photography
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition has the same internals as the standard version. However, it comes with additional features, such as a Master Zoom Ring that allows quick camera launch and direct control over EV, shutter speed, filters, and bokeh. It features a Leica red label with Leica-led industrial design, alongside a camera UI co-developed with Leica.

For an enhanced photography experience, it offers Leica Moment modes, including classic M3 and M9 simulations, supported by an end-to-end computational photography model currently in beta. Exclusive Leica watermarks and Looks filters are included, along with CAI photo authenticity protection, and support for both Tiantong and Beidou dual satellite systems.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra phone prices and availability
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra has launched in China in variants such as 12GB+512GB, 16GB+512GB, and 16GB+1TB. It starts at 6,999 CNY (~Rs 89,450) and is offered in colours like black, white, purple, and green.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition starts at 7,999 CNY (~Rs 1,02,200) and is offered in 16GB+512GB and 16GB+1TB options. It comes in black and white shades, both offering a dual-tone look.

Xiaomi has not released any statement on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s global availability. Reports suggest that it will debut alongside the Xiaomi 17 in March for the global market. It is unclear whether the Leica Edition will be released in markets outside of China.
