YouTube Premium is a gateway for users to enjoy ad-free content on the platform. It’s for those who don’t want to end up seeing a minute-long ad when they are watching a music video or enjoying a sports game. But it also costs a bit more, especially after the recent price hike.
Enter the new YouTube Premium Lite plan, which is cheaper and makes most videos ad-free. While the catch phrase here is ‘most,’ it also doesn’t come with other perks of the Premium plan. Here’s all you need to know.
What are the perks of YouTube Premium Lite?
Well, let’s start with the pricing and what you do get with it. The YouTube Premium Lite costs Rs 89 per month. And for that price, you get to watch most videos ad-free. This includes gaming, fashion, beauty, and news videos.
What that means is, music videos and videos from other categories will still have advertisements. Additionally, you don’t get ad-free music on the YouTube Music app. Further, you miss out on background play, which is otherwise a great feature to have.
You also won’t be able to download videos for offline play. Now, having offline play is quite useful when you are boarding a flight or are in a poor network area. However, that’s for the standard YouTube Premium plan, which now costs Rs 149 per month following the price hike.

So, you save about 50 per cent and get a taste of the standard YouTube Premium plan. Having said that, the new Lite plan is great for those who have never tried Premium. But for those who already have the standard Premium plan, there’s no going back.
