YouTube to discontinue support on older iPhones and iPads: Check the full list

Just days after WhatsApp announced it would stop supporting older iPhones and Android devices, YouTube is following suit. The video streaming giant has officially confirmed that it will discontinue support for several legacy iPhone and iPad models, prompting users to consider upgrading. Wondering if your device is on the list? Here’s everything you need to know.

YouTube will stop working on these iPhones and iPads: Check out the full list

With the rollout of YouTube version 20.22.1, the app will no longer be compatible with several older Apple devices. Going forward, only devices running iOS 16 / iPadOS 16 or later will be supported. If your device is running an earlier version, the YouTube app will no longer function, and you will have to rely on accessing YouTube through a web browser instead.

The list of affected devices include:

– iPhone 6s
– iPhone 6s Plus
– iPhone 7
– iPhone 7 Plus
– iPhone SE (1st Generation)
– iPad Air 2
– iPad Mini 4

In addition, the 7th-generation iPod Touch will also lose access to the YouTube app.

While you can still use YouTube via the browser on these devices, the experience will be limited. The web version lacks key app features such as seamless navigation, offline downloads, and background playback.

This move aligns with a broader industry trend of phasing out support for older hardware. App developers are increasingly focusing on newer devices that offer more robust software and security capabilities. WhatsApp, for instance, recently ended support for devices running iOS 15.1 and below.
