How to delete your Snapchat account

Deleting a Snapchat is not a difficult process. However, once you terminate an account, you cannot recover it, as it is an irreversible process. Hence, deleting a Snapchat account will result in losing account data, friend lists, snaps, chat conversations, memories, streaks, scores, trophies and charms, and other account-related information. Hence, it is advisable to do a backup of account data, before deleting a Snapchat account.

How to backup a Snapchat account before deleting it

On an Android device, the user can open ‘https://accounts.snapchat.com’ in a web browser to access the Snapchat Accounts Portal and enter the login credentials. Next, navigate to “My Data” and select what data you want to include and a desired date range, and then tap on “Submit Request.” You will receive an email with a download link to your account data.

On iOS, open the Snapchat app, tap on your profile icon placed in the top-left corner, and then select the gear icon for Settings. Scroll down and choose “Memories.” Make sure your memories are being saved to either “Memories and Camera Roll” or “Camera Roll only.” If you wish to save specific Snaps, tap the three dots beside the Snap and select “Export Snap” to save it to your device’s gallery or cloud storage.

How to delete a Snapchat account

You may want to delete your Snapchat account due to issues like privacy concerns, mental health and wellbeing, cyberbullying, time management, a temporary break, and so on. Continue reading ahead to learn about the steps to delete a Snapchat account.

On an Android or desktop:

Readers should note that Snapchat’s Android app does not have a direct in-app option to delete an account. Users are therefore required to delete it using a web browser, as follows:

1. Open https://accounts.snapchat.com in a web browser to access the Snapchat accounts portal.

2. Enter the username and password of the Snapchat account that you want to delete.

3. Once logged in, scroll down, and select “Delete my account.”

4. You will need to enter a username and password to confirm your decision to delete the account.

5. Hit the “Continue” button and then it will show the “Account Deactivated” message.

On iOS:

Here are the steps to delete a Snapchat account using an iPhone or any other iOS device:

1. Open the Snapchat app and tap the profile icon at the top-left corner.

2. Tap the gear icon to access the “Settings “page.

3. Scroll down to the “Support” section and select “I Need Help” to open the Snapchat support website.

4. Navigate to “My Account & Security” > “Account Information” > “Delete My Account.”

5. Follow the on-screen prompts and then enter your username and password to confirm your decision.

6. Tap on “Continue,” and you will see the “Account Deactivated” message.

Once a Snapchat account is deleted, it will remain in a deactivated state for 30 days. If you do not login to your account during this period, it will be permanently deleted.
