Upcoming iPhone design details allegedly revealed

It’s that time of the year again, with a little over a month to go for September, which is when Apple usually unveils its latest generation of iPhones. This year is no different, with the Cupertino-based company expected to unveil the iPhone 15. Naturally then, the rumour mills have been rife with speculations regarding the successors of the extremely popular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models.

As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the latest in line from Apple is expected to incorporate several designs as well as performance-oriented changes. Read on to find out what they are.

New iPhone design

The new iPhones is likely to have thinner bezels when compared to previous models. Additionally, this year even the base variants are expected to get the Dynamic Island – the interactive, pill-shaped cut-out. Last year, this was one of the iPhone 14 series’ most talked about features but was only restricted to the Pro models.

The displays of the top variants of the new iPhone are also expected to be made with a new Low Injection Pressure Over-Molding or “LIPO” technology. This may shrink the size of the bezels on all variants of the new device to about 1.5 millimetres, from about 2.2 millimetres on current models.

Besides this, Apple may also do away with the stainless-steel borders, and replace them with titanium. Titanium is both, lighter as well as stronger than steel.

New iPhone performance and battery

On the processor front, the vanilla variants of the new iPhones are expected to get the A16 Bionic chip which currently powers the iPhone 14 Pro models. The Pro models, on the other hand, may move to a faster 3-nanometre chip.

Additionally, the line-up may also finally get a USB Type-C port instead of Apple’s lightning port. This will finally do away with the hassle of having to purchase lightning cables and adapters. This is also likely to result in an increase in data transfer speeds.

Needless to say, the upcoming iPhones will also boast of upgraded camera abilities. Details, however, are yet to be leaked.

Other iPhone features to look out for

As per the report, Apple has likely planned another major addition to its new iPhone. Namely, touch-sensitive buttons on the side with haptic feedback, for both the power and volume buttons as well as the mute switch. They were expected to work similar to the trackpads on Macs, and couldn’t be physically pressed, therefore reducing the chance of damage from accidental drops, dents and dings.

However, this was cancelled after Apple encountered several issues with the buttons. The biggest being the increase in costs when compared to regular buttons. The company has therefore said to have decided to keep standard buttons for volume and power. Instead, the mute/ring switch will be converted into a customisable action button. They can assign different functions to it, such as mute, do not disturb, or even turn on/off the flashlight with it.

All of these upgrades to the new iPhone are expected to drive up its prices a fair bit, both in the US as well as markets worldwide. Either way, we can’t wait to see what Apple has in store for us with its latest smartphones.
