How to check the health of your Windows 10 and Windows 11 laptops

1. Check your device performance and health

Ever wondered where your laptop’s health report is hidden? Dig into the secret in the Windows Security app. As the name suggests, the app gives a complete health report of your system for ultimate security.

All you need to do is go to the Taskbar, search for Windows Security, and select Device Performance and Health. Within a fraction of a second, you will get a health report that displays any issues in Windows time service, storage capacity, battery life, apps, and software.

2. Install Windows updates regularly

Regularly updating your Windows is essential for your laptop’s health and security. Windows updates help you with bug fixes, security patches, and improve performance. To keep Windows updated, you must go to Settings, Update and Security, and then click on Windows Update. Your laptop will thank you for this immunity boost.

3. Monitor system performance regularly

Windows offers an in-built tool to monitor your laptop’s performance. The task manager in Windows 10 and 11 displays real-time information about your laptop’s CPU, memory, and disk usage. To get access to this data, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys. Keeping an eye on these metrics will help you identify any unusual resource hogs or spikes that might create a problem.

4. Check for hardware issues

Inspecting hardware components is a good idea to ensure your laptop’s overall health. Most manufacturers provide in-built hardware diagnostic tools that monitor the temperature of your CPU and GPU. Excessive heating of these hardware parts can degrade the performance of your laptop.

5. Leverage reliability monitor

Reliability Monitor is like reading your laptop’s diary! This handy tool presents a timeline of system events and errors for you to track them. This helps you identify recurring issues in your laptop so you can solve them quickly. To access it, search Reliability Monitor in the search menu and open the application.

6. Clean your laptop every day

Wipe it! Keeping your laptop clean is important, as dust can clog the laptop’s cooling system, leading to slow performance. To keep your laptop’s health in good condition, clean the vents and fans with compressed air. Clean it inside out! Scan for malware and viruses and keep your laptop safe from threats.
