How to download Aadhaar on WhatsApp: Step-by-step guide

The Aadhaar card is India’s most important ID, but let’s be honest, downloading it hasn’t always been smooth. You either had to log in to UIDAI’s website, fiddle with DigiLocker, or scroll through endless email attachments. Now, there’s a faster way.

The government has rolled out an update that lets you download Aadhaar directly on WhatsApp using the official MyGov Helpdesk chatbot. That means the app you use daily for messages and calls can also double up as your Aadhaar locker. Here’s how.

Why download Aadhaar on WhatsApp

For millions of Indians, Aadhaar is more than just an ID card; it’s essential for banking, SIM cards, travel, and government services. Until now, Aadhaar downloads were limited to UIDAI’s portal or DigiLocker. With WhatsApp integration, the process is more seamless.

The feature is powered by MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp (+919013151515). But here’s the fine print; your Aadhaar must be linked with DigiLocker, and your registered mobile number must be active to receive OTP verification.

Step-by-step process to download Aadhaar on WhatsApp

Follow these steps to get your Aadhaar card instantly on WhatsApp:

Step 1: Save the MyGov Helpdesk number +91-9013151515 to your contacts
Step 2: Open WhatsApp and send a message like “Hi” or “Namaste”
Step 3: From the chatbot menu, select DigiLocker services
Step 4: Confirm your DigiLocker account and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number
Step 5: Enter the OTP sent to your registered Aadhaar mobile number
Step 6: The chatbot will display available documents linked to your DigiLocker
Step 7: Choose Aadhaar, and your Aadhaar PDF will be sent instantly on WhatsApp
