How to fix a washing machine that’s not spinning

It’s no surprise that washing machine spin cycles play a significant role in our daily cleaning chores. When it decides to go on a strike, it not only invites piles of soggy and unwashed clothes but also hampers the balance of our daily lives. But fear not, here are some quick fixes to troubleshoot if your washer isn’t spinning.

5 reasons with solutions to fix washing machine spin cycles

Follow these easy ways to fix a washing machine that’s not spinning.

Unbalanced washer

If your washing machine is vibrating a lot or is unnaturally noisy during spin cycles, the washer is probably not standing on a flat or even surface. Some front load washing machines even have built-in detectors, which have illuminated symbols if the washer is not balanced. Make sure your washer fits are resting on a flat and even surface.

Overloaded machine

The washing machine sometimes refuses to spin if the machine is overstuffed. The appliance only detects it when the washer is filled with water. While many machines have overload detector sensors, some have not.

And as a result, it won’t spin until you ease the burden. In either case, you must take out the soggy clothes until it’s light enough to spin according to the machine’s capacity.

Unbalanced load

This especially happens when the load inside the washer is not properly distributed. If you are trying to wash only a few heavy items like winter clothes or too light items like a couple of shoes, the machine won’t spin. In such cases, open the lid and shift the items around the machine while adding extra load.

Faulty lid switch

Apart from indicating whether the lid is closed correctly or not, the lid switch plays another vital function. It also acts as a safety feature to keep your washing machine from spinning if not. Depending on the brand, while most machines won’t start filling the water if the lid switch is not working, some machines stop going to the spin cycle after filling the water.

You can find the switch underneath the lid. Check whether it’s making good contact or if it’s bent. You can bend back the switch to shape gently and start over again.

Poor drainage

Usually, the washing machines don’t switch to the spin cycle until the water is drained entirely. If the machine faces poor drainage because of clogged debris in the drainage hose, your washing machine won’t spin. In such situations, switch off the machine. Detect and unplug the drainage hose, which is usually at the back of the machine and clean it properly with a wire hanger or a drain snake.

If your washer is still not spinning after trying the above methods, your appliance might need professional assistance to get fixed. Refer to Croma’s ZipCare plans for washing machines to maintain and protect your washing machine like a breeze.
