Ever since smartphone makers introduced virtual assistants, our lives have been simplified, and routine tasks have certainly become easier to tackle. In fact, our phones have also doubled up as smart hubs for many of our home and kitchen appliances today. But despite this, you may find a virtual assistant interfering or may even want to tune out of it every once in a while. In this article, we’ll show you how to turn off Samsung’s Bixby assistant on your smartphone. Here’s everything you need to know:
A step-by-step guide to turning off Bixby on your Samsung phone

However, unlike the rest, the virtual assistant didn’t catch on. Cut to today, Samsung is now pushing its users to rely on Google Assistant for any of their tasks. In fact, with the all-new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, Gemini is available as the main assistant. While you could always choose to have both on your device, if you’re wondering how to disable it, here’s how to go about it:
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Samsung smartphone
Step 2: Scroll to find Advanced Features; tap on it
Step 3: Within this, select Bixby
Step 4: Scroll to find an option that reads Leave Bixby
Step 5: Tap OK to save changes

Once you do this, you will automatically be disconnected from Bixby. It is crucial to note, though, that all your Bixby-related data will also be wiped out of the system once you take this action. Samsung mentions how the full data deletion process may take up to a week.
In case you change your mind, you can always follow the same steps to get it running again. That said, remember that you will be starting from scratch and with no data whatsoever.
What happens after you turn off Bixby on a Samsung phone?
Once you’re done disabling Bixby, you’re left with Google Assistant as your default virtual assistant on your phone. And, with recent changes, you also have the option of using Gemini at the forefront. With its latest update, the AI assistant is now more intuitive and it can now do more than just generate texts or images. Who is your favourite assistant? Let us know in the comments below!
