How to increase iPhone battery health to 100 per cent

Apple iPhone’s include a feature in the Settings app that indicates the health of your device’s battery. This indicator lets you know when your battery has degraded to the point that it’s impacting performance. The exact percentage will vary by device, but for iPhones, Apple’s guidance is that when battery health drops below 80 per cent, performance will drop.

What is battery health and why does it matter?

A battery is a package of chemicals that react to produce electricity. Over time, these chemicals lose their efficacy, and this is sped up by charging and discharge cycles.

The battery will lose its ability to both hold and deliver the required voltage and current needed for your phone’s operation. When the battery has degraded significantly, by at least 20 per cent in the iPhone’s case, Apple will slow your phone down so as to put less stress on the battery.

This is important as a significantly degraded battery can’t provide the voltage and current needed for a phone to safely operate at max performance. Secondly, the lower performance mode also places less strain on an already damaged battery.

How to increase iPhone battery health to 100 per cent

When your battery is degraded, the chemicals inside have permanently degraded. You cannot restore that battery to its full, 100 per cent capacity.

The only option available to you is getting your battery replaced.

Ideally, head to an Apple authorised repair centre for the same. If your device is under warranty, the battery will be replaced for free. If not, you’ll be charged a fee for the replacement, which varies depending on which device you have.

You can also reach out to third-party repair shops for a cheaper repair for your phone, but only go to places you trust to ensure that you get a reliable and original battery as a replacement.

The least viable option is to perform the replacement yourself. Be warned that while this is possible, it requires specialised tools and that the damaged battery is a fire hazard. Don’t risk burning your house down or irreparably damaging your phone unnecessarily.
