GoPro is undoubtedly the most versatile pocket camera one can buy. It is sturdy, waterproof, has built-in stabilisation, and has a compact form factor, yet it supports high-resolution video. The design and features also make it a great camera for shooting timelapse. When compared to a DSLR, a GoPro makes it easier to condense hours of footage and create a stunning timelapse.
GoPro offers two timelapse modes: timelapse photo and timelapse video. While the camera captures still images at regular intervals in both modes, it stitches stills into a video file when you shoot in timelapse video mode. If you are looking to film timelapse with your GoPro, here’s everything you need to know.
Timelapse filming with a GoPro
It is not just the design or features or affordable-than-a-DSLR pricing that makes GoPro great for a wide range of users but it is also how easy it is to use. GoPro makes it extremely easy to shoot with its action cameras and when it comes to shooting a timelapse, it is rather straightforward. Here’s a step-by-step guide to shooting a timelapse with a GoPro.

In addition to timelapse photos and video, GoPro also offers an additional timelapse mode called timewarp, which is best for dynamic shots with the camera moving or for shooting hyperlapse.
Construction timelapse with a GoPro
With the timelapse mode, you can use your GoPro to shoot slow processes like sunsets, traffic flows, or even construction projects. GoPro’s durable and weatherproof body and ability to operate continuously with an external power source make them a great choice to shoot construction timelapse. An excellent example of a timelapse to show construction progress would be the construction of Apple Park. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Mount your GoPro on a clamp or a tripod and place it at a high vantage point to capture the full construction area.
Step 2: Connect your GoPro to an external power source like a wall adapter or a power bank to ensure your device does not run out of juice.
Step 3: Now, insert a high-capacity microSD card and set your GoPro to either timelapse photo or timelapse video modes.
A timelapse photo mode will allow for flexibility while recording a construction timelapse.
Step 4: Set the interval between 1m and 30 minutes depending on how long you plan to record the footage and choose the highest resolution possible. The GoPro Hero 13 Black allows for up to 5.3K resolution.
Step 5: Edit and compile the footage for an excellent construction timelapse shot with a GoPro.

Whether you are recording a sunrise, capturing your trip or construction of a dynamic complex like Apple Park, timelapse brings a new level of storytelling. If you already have a GoPro, it is time to put its timelapse feature to good use.
