Watching Instagram reels at the max volume is an experience you can’t beat. But sometimes, you may want to still watch a reel without the audio, say in lifts or in between meetings where you can’t exactly turn up the volume.

This is exactly where you may want to turn on video captions. Turning on captions will let you read and understand what’s happening in a reel, letting you get the most out of it. In this story, we’ll show you how you can turn on video captions on Instagram.

How to turn on captions for Instagram reels

Before we get started, make sure to update the Instagram app to the latest version, as it’s always best to be on the latest version. Once done, you can follow the steps below to turn on video captions for Instagram reels.

Step 1: Open Instagram on your Android phone or iPhone.

Step 2: Head to the reels tab, which looks like a video icon.

Step 3: Once you are on the reels and have one reel playing in the background, tap the three dots.

Step 4: Now, you should see Closed captions. Just tap on it and select between the two options – ‘Always show closed captions’ or ‘Only show translated closed captions’. The former will generate automatic captions for most videos.

Step 5: Once done, go back, and you should start seeing video captions on reels.
