Instagram Map was announced in August, and it’s now live in India. The feature lets you share your last active location on the map, allowing your friends see your whereabouts.
While it’s a cool feature to have, it’s also quite controversial. But thankfully, Meta has also rolled out some Privacy tools alongside Instagram Map. Having said that, you can use this feature without worrying about someone actually spying on you.
Sounds good? Here’s everything you need to know about the feature and how you can use it.
What is Instagram Map and how to use it
Instagram Map uses your location and lets you share it with friends. Friends can simply open the Instagram Map and check where you have been, but that’s only if you choose to share your location.
Further, users can see posts tagged on that exact location or place. For instance, you see your friends exploring Taj Mahal on the Map, you can simply tap on the location, zoom in on the map and see other people’s posts from the same place.
Now that’s quite similar to Snap Map. Meta is also offering some privacy tools to do away with any sort of spying activities. For instance, users can control who can see their location and select or remove people who can and can’t see their location.
So, you can choose not to share your location with your boss on the Instagram Map, and he won’t know about your whereabouts. Sounds cool? Now, here’s how you can use it.

The feature is being rolled out on iPhones and Android devices, and you can simply access it by heading to the DMs section, followed by hitting the Map icon. Give permissions, and you are good to go.
