Instagram Map: How to turn off the location feature

Instagram announced a new feature this week that’s more controversial than cool. We are talking about the new ‘Map’ feature on the app that lets you see where your friends are in real-time. While it’s a great way for people to share their whereabouts, it’s also a privacy and security concern, and you may want to disable this feature for that exact reason.

Although Instagram confirmed that location sharing for Map is disabled by default, you still might want to check whether it’s actually turned off or not. Because a couple of users on the Internet were unknowingly sharing their location by default, and this can be a serious privacy and security concern.

So, if you are an avid Instagram user or just open the app for a quick doomscrolling session, here’s how you can turn off location sharing on Instagram, so you no longer appear on the Map.

How to disappear from the Instagram Map

Thankfully, Instagram hasn’t kept things cumbersome; you can easily get off the Instagram Map with a few simple steps. Follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open Instagram on your Android phone, iPhone.

Step 2: Tap the Messages/DMs icon in the top right corner. Or, you can simply slide into DMs by swiping from left to right.

Step 3: Tap the Map feature at the top of your DMs.

Step 4: Tap the settings button, which looks like a gear icon.

Step 5: Now, choose your location sharing preferences – tap next to the ‘No one’ option. Lastly, hit update.
