Apple is known for announcing the new version of iOS through the Worldwide Developer Conference, which is usually held in June each year. While iOS 27 is expected to break cover through WWDC 2026, the rumour mill is already spilling details about what to expect from it.
iOS 27: What to expect
A Bloomberg report has revealed that the primary focus of iOS 27 is to enhance “quality and underlying performance” rather than adding new features. The update is being compared to 2009’s Mac OS X Snow Leopard, not for its design but for its focus on deep performance optimisations and overall system refinement.
It goes without saying that iOS 27 will add many features, especially AI features. However, as mentioned above, it appears that the main focus is overall stability, delivering a smoother experience than before.
The report states that iOS 27’s artificial intelligence features will be integrated into Apple apps. Additionally, it will also feature an Apple Health+ subscription service, which will offer users personalised health recommendations. Reports suggest that Siri will gain a visual personality in iOS 27 to make it more lifelike, and may potentially be powered by an integrated version of Google Gemini’s AI model
A previous report by the same publication revealed that iOS 27 will have features designed for the much-awaited foldable iPhone. For those unaware, rumours suggest that the foldable iPhone will debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models in September 2026.
The first beta of iOS 27 will be rolled out shortly, allowing users and developers to test the new software before the final version is released at WWDC next June. The event will also see the arrival of iPadOS 27 and tvOS 27.
Speaking of iPadOS 27, it is speculated that the new tablet-focused operating system, as well as iOS 27, will offer major updates across the entire Apple Intelligence suite. The new report also states that even macOS 27 will prioritise improved quality over new features.
