In recent days, the rumour mill has been actively leaking details about the second-generation iPhone Air (also called the iPhone Air 2). Initial reports suggested that it would be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and the company’s first foldable phone in September 2026. A newer report even claimed that its arrival had been delayed indefinitely.
A fresh report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has now revealed a revised launch window for the device. He has also shared new details about the 20th anniversary iPhone, which is reportedly in development.
iPhone Air 2 launch timeframe
According to Gurman’s report, the Apple iPhone Air 2 is now planned to debut in March 2027. It is expected to be announced alongside the iPhone 18 and the more affordable iPhone 18e. He added that the Air 2 was originally intended for a 2027 launch and has not been delayed.
Rumours indicate that the iPhone Air 2 will be slimmer and lighter, while offering a larger battery than the first-generation model. It is also tipped to feature a dual 48MP rear camera setup and a vapour chamber cooling system. Powering the device is said to be Apple’s first 2nm chipset, the Apple A20.
20th anniversary iPhone
In September 2027, Apple is expected to hold a major launch event to introduce its 20th anniversary iPhones. The series may carry the iPhone 20 name, skipping the iPhone 19 series entirely. Along with a new design featuring a completely bezel-less display, previous reports and the latest update reiterate that the iPhone 20 series will offer a 20MP under-display selfie camera for a fully immersive screen experience.
This approach may become mainstream in 2027, with Android manufacturers likely to adopt similar under-screen camera technology.
2026 iPhone lineup
As for next year, the September 2026 Apple event is expected to see the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
