In September this year, Apple unveiled the iPhone Air, its sleekest and slimmest iPhone, alongside the iPhone 17 series. While reports suggested that the iPhone Air did not perform strongly in the market, that hasn’t stopped Apple from preparing a second-generation model for 2026. Tipster Digital Chat Station recently shared on Weibo some key details about what to expect from the second-generation iPhone Air, also referred to as the iPhone Air 2 (2026) by the rumour mill.
iPhone Air 2 (2026) key details tipped
According to the leak, the second-generation iPhone Air is progressing through its normal development cycle and will retain many design elements from the original model. It will continue to prioritise an ultra-slim and lightweight design, featuring a horizontal bar-style camera layout on the rear panel.
He shared the above image for illustrative purposes, and it is not a representation of the actual device. On the front, the device will reportedly sport a 6.5-inch high-refresh-rate display and support 3D facial recognition.
The tipster also revealed that Apple is considering a dual-camera setup, featuring a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultra-wide lens, a notable improvement from the single-camera configuration on the first-generation iPhone Air.
Although no other specifications were shared, earlier reports have indicated that Apple is developing new A20 and A20 Pro 2nm chips for the iPhone 18 series. Since the first iPhone Air came equipped with the A19 Pro chip, the upcoming model could be powered by the A20 Pro, promising improved performance and efficiency.
Expected launch timeline
The iPhone Air 2 (2026) is reportedly one of several new devices in Apple’s 2026 lineup, expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the company’s first foldable iPhone. Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to debut in the first half of 2027.
