Meanwhile, the latest affordable iPhone sticks to last year’s 60Hz 6.1-inch OLED screen with 1,200 nits peak brightness and a wide notch. It also retains the IP68 rating from the predecessor model. The phone gets an upgraded Ceramic Shield 2 protection for the screen.

Apple has not made any changes to the iPhone 17e’s camera that features a 48MP rear sensor and a 12MP selfie snapper. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 sports an extra 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens on the back and also an 18MP front-facing camera. The iPhone 17e also lacks camera control button. So if you’re a photoraphy enthusiasts, you might lean towards the standard iPhone 17. 

Both phones are capable of recording Dolby Vision videos up to 4K at 60 fps. There’s support for Spatial Audio and wind noise reduction.

The iPhone 17 and 17e are powered by A19 processor that is compatible with AAA games and also Apple Intelligence. Both phones start at 256GB storage option. Apple doesn’t reveal battery capacities but the iPhone 17e is rated to offer 26 hours of video playback which is slightly lesser than 30 hours on the iPhone 17. Although the affordable model comes with support for MagSafe, the charging speed is restricted to 15W compared to 25W on the iPhone 17.

The iPhone 17e costs Rs 64,900 and Rs 84,900 for the 256GB and 512GB storage options. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 is priced at Rs 82,900 and Rs 1,02,900 for the same configurations.

If you aren’t on a tight budget, the iPhone 17 is a clear winner provided you don’t refresh your smartphone every 2 years. Unless you specifically want the additional features, the iPhone 17e is a smarter choice that may not impact everyday usage. It delivers most of the core iPhone experience.
