Refined design expected

iPhone 18 Pro Max could become Apple’s heaviest iPhone yet

In September, Apple unveiled the iPhone 17 series in multiple markets, including India. While it has been only a few weeks since its release, the rumour mill is already abuzz with talk about the iPhone 18 lineup.

A new leak suggests that the iPhone 18 Pro series will feature design refinements, while another source indicates that the phones could be heavier than before. Here’s a look at all the new details that have emerged so far.

iPhone 18 Pro series to sport unified colour for back panel

For those unaware, the Apple iPhone 17 Pro series features a frame and most of its rear casing made of aluminium, while the cutout on the back for MagSafe and wireless charging is made of reinforced glass, marketed as Ceramic Shield 2. This design results in a noticeable colour contrast between the aluminium unibody and the glass portion, giving the phone a dual-tone finish.

According to a new rumour, Apple is working to perfectly match the colour on both portions of the back panel on next year’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

iPhone 18 Pro Max could be the heaviest iPhone

Weighing 233 grams, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is already among the heaviest iPhones to date, the heaviest being the 240-gram iPhone 14 Pro Max. A new leak now claims that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max will exceed 240 grams, making it the heaviest iPhone ever.

The same leak also indicates that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be thicker than its predecessor. For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max measures 8.8mm in thickness, whereas the 18 Pro Max could reach around 9mm.

Expected launch timeline for the iPhone 18 series

According to the latest reports, Apple is planning a two-phase launch for the iPhone 18 lineup. The Pro models, including the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, are expected to debut alongside the company’s first foldable iPhone in September 2026. The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models may follow in the first half of 2027.
