New video games you shouldn’t miss in September 2025

September 2025 is here, and it is a monumental month for gaming. After a relatively quiet summer, the release schedule is finally getting busy with some major titles. Leading the charge is the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong, which makes its official debut on September 4 after a six-year development cycle. The game puts you in control of Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, featuring fast-paced combat, intricate platforming, and over a hundred fresh enemies to face.

Just a week later, Borderlands 4 drops on September 12, expanding the looter-shooter formula with a new planet, fresh Vault Hunters, and the deepest skill trees the series has ever offered.

Horror fans won’t be left out either, with Silent Hill F closing out the month, promising a haunting new chapter set in 1960s Japan, with a psychological, melee-driven survival horror story.

So, if you’re trying to keep track of what’s worth your time, here’s every new game release coming your way in September 2025.

Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4 propels the beloved series into bold new territory. For the first time, the action leaves Pandora behind for Kairos, a world locked down for centuries by the Timekeeper and his synthetic army. It’s a darker setting, but one that still leans into the series’ trademark chaos. You’ll step into the boots of four new Vault Hunters, including Vex, a Siren who can summon allies with phase energy, and Rafa, a bruiser in an exo-suit built for close combat. They’ll be joined by familiar faces like Claptrap and Moxxi, along with new allies such as Echo-4, a wisecracking drone sidekick.

Gearbox is promising the deepest progression yet, with expanded skill trees and a new “Licensed Parts” system that lets weapons borrow traits across manufacturers for wild combinations. And, of course, co-op is back, featuring four-player online, split-screen, and full cross-play. Borderlands 4 launches on September 12 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version following on October 3.

Dying Light: The Beast

Kyle Crane is back in Dying Light: The Beast. Thirteen years after his disappearance, Crane returns infected with zombie DNA and a dangerous ability called “Beast Mode,” which lets him tear through hordes in a feral state, but at the risk of losing control, adding real tension to every fight. The story unfolds in Castor Woods, a bleak region swarming with undead and towering Chimeras.

Parkour and melee combat are still front and centre, but this time around, gunplay and drivable vehicles play a bigger role. Techland is also adding dynamic weather, a heavier horror tone, and a longer, story-rich campaign. Dying Light: The Beast launches September 19 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.

EA Sports FC 26

EA Sports FC 26 is taking a cleaner, more refined approach this year. Instead of gimmicky extras, the game brings two new ways to play, namely, “competitive” for fast, skill-driven Ultimate Team matches, and “authentic” for slower, tactical sessions in Career Mode and offline. On the field, dribbling is tighter, keepers react smarter, and passing has a smoother flow, making matches look and feel closer to real football.

Presentation has also been refreshed with new overlays, lighting upgrades, and customisable commentary. With Rush mode returning, full cross-play, and Switch 2 joining the lineup, EA Sports FC 26 looks like one of EA’s most complete football sims yet.

EA Sports FC 26 launches September 26, for almost every platform, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Switch, and Switch 2.

Hollow Knight Silksong

It’s been a long wait, but Hollow Knight: Silksong finally has a release date. This time, Hornet, the former princess of Hallownest and a familiar face from the first game, takes the lead as she finds herself trapped in Pharloom, a strange kingdom ruled by silk and song. Instead of descending deeper like in Hollow Knight, her journey climbs upward through caves, ruined towns, and glittering citadels as she pieces together the mystery of her capture.

Furthermore, Hornet plays nothing like the Knight. She’s faster, more acrobatic, and built for chaining fluid combos, with her Silk resource fueling quick heals and special abilities that reward aggressive play. The world itself feels more alive too, filled with side quests, branching character stories and over 150 new enemies.

With challenging platforming and another haunting score from Christopher Larkin, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally lands September 4 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, Switch 2, and PC.

Hell is Us

Hell is Us throws you into Hadea in 1993, a country torn apart by civil war and crawling with the supernatural. You play as Rémi, a UN peacekeeper who abandons his mission to search for his missing parents, only to run into Hollow Walkers, eerie creatures tied together by unsettling “umbilical cords.”

The game’s combat focuses on melee weapons like swords, axes, and polearms, with each offering its own attack style. Outside of combat, exploration is just as demanding, and the game encourages you to find your own path. There are no waypoints or quest logs in Hell is Us, and you’ll instead have to rely on NPC conversations, environmental clues, and your compass to find the way forward.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle: The Order of Giants

MachineGames may call it DLC, but Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants feels like a full-blown sequel. Set in 1937, the campaign drops Indy back in Rome, where ancient myths collide with dangerous cults and political schemes. It all starts when Indy meets Father Ricci, a young priest chasing a powerful artefact, pulling him into a clash with the shadowy Nephilim Order and the ruthless Cult of Mithras. Along the way, familiar names like Mussolini and Father Ventura return to the fold, and the action takes Indy across Rome’s landmarks and hidden corners, from the Vatican Gardens and the River Tiber to crypts, sewers, and the Colosseum.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants also packs in puzzles, tricky platforming, boat chases, and cinematic showdowns, including a fight against what looks like an undead foe in the Colosseum arena.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants launches September 4 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, with a Switch 2 release set for 2026.
