The OnePlus 16 is one of the flagship phones expected to launch in October this year in China. However, the rumour mill has already started leaking details about it, and initial reports suggest that it could be a huge upgrade over the OnePlus 15. Here’s a look at what the early leaks say.
OnePlus 16 specifications (rumoured)
A recent X post by OnePlus Club has revealed that the OnePlus 16 will feature a new BOE X5 OLED screen that offers a 1.5K resolution, similar to the OnePlus 15, but with a significantly higher 240Hz refresh rate. There is currently no information about the display size.
Under the hood, the OnePlus 16 is tipped to feature the forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, paired with LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. It is also said to pack a massive 9,000mAh battery with support for 120W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The OnePlus 15 was criticised for not offering a major leap in the photography department over the OnePlus 13. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 16 is expected to deliver a significant camera upgrade, featuring a 200MP Samsung HP5 main camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, accompanied by a new ultra-wide lens.
The leak also claims that the OnePlus 16 will feature dual coaxial speakers, a 0916T motor for haptics, and a next-generation ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor. The phone is expected to run Android 17 with OxygenOS 17 on top.
Too good to be true
The above specifications appear almost too good to be true and seem to be not just one, but two generations ahead of the OnePlus 15. The source of this leak has stated that these are expected specifications based on early information. As such, the details should be taken with a pinch of salt, and the final device is unlikely to offer such a dramatic upgrade over the previous generation.
