OpenAI has introduced GPT 5.4, the latest version of its flagship AI model, across ChatGPT, the API and Codex. The update focuses on improving professional productivity tasks such as research, coding and document creation.
Alongside the model launch, the company has also announced new tools aimed at financial and spreadsheet workflows, including an Excel integration.
ChatGPT 5.4: What does it offer
GPT 5.4 combines improvements in reasoning, coding and tool interaction into a single model designed for real-world tasks. It incorporates coding capabilities derived from the GPT 5.3 Codex line while expanding how the model works across software environments, documents, presentations and spreadsheets. The goal is to help users complete complex professional tasks more efficiently with fewer interactions.

In ChatGPT, the new GPT 5.4 Thinking mode can outline its reasoning plan before generating results, allowing users to guide the response while it is being produced. The model is also better at deep web research and maintaining context during longer queries. OpenAI says these changes lead to faster and more accurate responses, particularly when the question requires multiple steps or detailed analysis.
The model also introduces improved computer interaction abilities. GPT 5.4 can operate software environments by analysing screenshots and issuing keyboard or mouse commands. This makes it suitable for automated workflows that span different applications. Benchmarks suggest the model performs better than earlier versions in coding, research and professional knowledge work tasks.
Developers also benefit from larger context support and improved tool selection. GPT 5.4 can process up to one million tokens in certain environments, enabling it to work through longer workflows and more complex tasks. It is also designed to consume fewer tokens for reasoning, which can reduce latency and overall processing costs.
ChatGPT 5.4: Availability and pricing
GPT 5.4 is rolling out across ChatGPT, Codex and the API. In ChatGPT, GPT 5.4 Thinking is available for Plus, Team and Pro users, while GPT 5.4 Pro is offered to Pro and Enterprise plans. In the API, GPT 5.4 costs $2.50 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, while GPT 5.4 Pro is priced at $30 per million input tokens and $180 per million output tokens.
ChatGPT for Excel and new financial data integrations
OpenAI has also launched ChatGPT for Excel in beta, bringing the AI assistant directly inside spreadsheets. The add-in allows users to create, analyse and update spreadsheet models using natural language while maintaining formulas and workbook structure.
At the same time, ChatGPT is gaining integrations with financial data providers such as FactSet, Dow Jones Factiva, LSEG, S&P Global and others, enabling research and analysis within a single workspace.
