Shortly before the OnePlus 15 launch in China, the company has announced OxygenOS 16, its latest software update based on Android 16, bringing a mix of subtle design refinements, deeper AI integration, and smarter device connectivity. While Google’s Android 16 release was conservative, OnePlus has leaned into innovation, adding features that make everyday use feel more personal and fluid. Here’s everything you need to know.
OxygenOS 16: Refined visuals and faster performance
OxygenOS 16 introduces a light, airy interface with glass-like transparency and softer animations. The revamped Quick Settings panel is now divided into customisable sections for large and small tiles, while the “Flow Motion” animation engine ensures app transitions feel smooth even during rapid multitasking.
The update also expands OnePlus’s Parallel Processing algorithm, making home screen and multitasking animations more responsive.
Customisation takes a noticeable step up. With Flux Themes 2.0, users can give the lock screen more visual depth. Clocks and text now blend naturally into wallpapers. Auto-themed icons extend system-wide, from the home screen to the app drawer, offering a cleaner and more cohesive look.
Tablet users benefit from improved multitasking, with up to five apps open at once and a wider dock for quick access.
OxygenOS 16: Smarter AI and seamless connectivity
AI sits at the centre of OxygenOS 16. The Mind Space feature now integrates with Google’s Gemini assistant, allowing saved notes, screenshots, and clips to be referenced in AI-powered searches or planning tasks. Voice memos up to 60 seconds long can be saved instantly, while Gemini adds summaries and tags automatically. The AI Writer generates structured notes and mind maps, and the AI Recorder provides real-time transcription and summaries.

OnePlus has also introduced a consolidated Cross-Device Connectivity hub that syncs phones, tablets, PCs, TVs, and even Apple Watches. Through the new O Plus Connect app, users can share files, sync clipboards, cast screens, and control their devices across ecosystems; a move that blurs the line between Android and desktop workflows.
Built atop Android 16’s core enhancements, OxygenOS 16 includes predictive back navigation and new privacy features like Advanced Protection and Identity Check. The update debuts with the OnePlus 15 series and will reach recent models in the coming months.
And starting October 17th, the Open Beta Program will allow enthusiasts to experience the new features of OxygenOS 16 before its general release.
