Samsung Galaxy S25 LOG videos explained: What are they and how to use them

One of the new features on the cameras of the Galaxy S25 series is the ability to shoot LOG video. Those who follow the world of flagship smartphones will recognise the term from 2023, as that was when Apple also implemented the ability in its iPhone 15 Pro series phones (also found on the newer iPhone 16 Pro series). Now, Samsung’s new feature addition also lets Android phone users shoot in LOG.

Here’s everything you need to know about the LOG video feature on the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, including how it works, and how you can use it.

Samsung Galaxy S25 LOG videos: What is LOG video?

Shooting in LOG, basically means recording the video in a special LOG profile. This profile fortifies your clip with a lot of information allowing a lot of colour-grading during post-production. If you know what RAW photographs are, this is exactly that, but for videos.

For allowing for a wider colour-grading range, LOG videos themselves are bigger in size compared to standard 1080p or even 4K videos. LOG clips are also greyish looking and feel very washed out when it comes to colour.

When to use LOG video (and when not to)

Despite how good LOG videos can be in the right scenario, they shouldn’t be the default video recording format. As mentioned above, LOG video clips are washed out and look very dull and lifeless compared to standard video recording, and all the colours, shadows and highlights can only be brought out using advanced video-editing software during Post-Production. That said, once you have a LOG video clip up in Adobe Premier Pro for instance, you will realise that you can do a lot more with colours and other aspects.

So, if you need a quick video to share to friends, or post on social media, you should stick to your regular video recording modes. However, if you want to use the phone to record something for a project that you plan on editing later, the LOG format is very ideal as it will give your clips a lot more room to play around with.

How to enable LOG video recording on the Samsung Galaxy S25 series

On the Samsung Galaxy S25, Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, these are some easy steps you can follow to shoot in LOG.

Step 1: Open the camera app and go to the video mode.

Step 2: Open the settings and tap on ‘Advanced video options’

Step 3: You should now see a LOG option. Tap on it and switch the toggle on to use the feature.

Step 4: You will have the options to use LOG encoding in only the Pro mode, or also in the standard mode. We recommend you stick to the former, so you can easily jump in and out of LOG recording when required.

Step 5: Once this is set, head back to the viewfinder in the video recording mode, and you should now see a new LOG button. Tap on it to enable LOG recording.

Now you can record a video in any resolution, and as long as the toggle is set to LOG, you will record in LOG format. Turn off the toggle, to go back to standard recording. Stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma for more camera tips and tricks, and all things tech.
