Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6: What to expect from Samsung’s next clamshell-style foldable

It’s been long enough since Samsung’s last Unpacked event for us to begin setting our sights on the next Unpacked event. With the S-series flagships for 2024, the Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones now released, it’s time for the brand to refresh its foldable lineup of Z-series phones.

Thanks to plenty of rumours, we are expecting Samsung to hold its next Unpacked event in July this year, possibly on July 10. However, since there has been no official communication on this just yet, all we can do is focus on the devices to be expected, one of which is the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6. Here’s what we know about the phone so far.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6: What we know so far

Succeeding the Galaxy Z Flip5, the new Galaxy Z Flip6 is expected to be another clamshell-style foldable smartphone. That means unlike the Fold-series phones, the Flip6 will most likely sport a bar form factor, allowing users to fold the phone vertically along a horizontal crease in the middle.

While early rumours had suggested that the phone could be powered by one of Samsung’s in-house chipsets like the Exynos 2400, some Geekbench reports have suggested that Samsung will be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip on the phone. This would mean better general and thermal performance than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, as well as the on-device capabilities the 8 Gen 3 boasts of.

The Geekbench reports also suggest that the Samsung Galaxy ZFlip 6 will be powered by Android 14 upon launch, likely along with One UI 6.1, or a subsequent version of the custom skin on top.

Another report by tipster Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) on X suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 will also be available in multiple colours this time around. Apart from the standard black and white, the phone will reportedly also be available in peach, light blue, light green, silver and yellow. This should provide plenty of choice for those looking to upgrade to the clamshell phone in the coming months.

Coming to the specifications of the phone, a few important changes are expected, as per a report by GSMArena. These include a larger 3.9-inch cover display, 12GB RAM and a 50MP main camera on the back with a 12MP ultrawide camera. The battery capacity also reportedly gets a small bump, going from a 3,700mAh cell to a 4,000mAh cell.

With Samsung reportedly gearing up to launch the phones in July, we still have over two months between now and the launch of the phone. That’s plenty of time for smaller changes and additions, and we’ll just have to wait for Samsung to let us in on the final specifications and features of the device.
