Upcoming Samsung phone’s ‘Privacy Display’ feature could arrive on Xiaomi 18, Vivo X500

One of the highlights of the upcoming Samsung flagship is expected to be its Privacy Display feature, a next-level privacy technology designed to limit viewing angles and prevent others from seeing sensitive on-screen content. It appears to be a very important feature that could eventually expand beyond a single device and become available on other smartphones as well.

Now, a new leak suggests that this advanced privacy feature may not remain exclusive, as other Android flagship smartphones arriving later this year could also adopt similar hardware-based solutions.

Hardware-level anti-peep display tipped for upcoming flagships

According to well-known tipster, several Chinese smartphone brands are currently evaluating an anti-peeping display system that works directly through the screen hardware. Unlike traditional privacy screen protectors or software filters, this approach reportedly reduces visibility when the display is viewed from side angles.

The aim is to improve privacy in crowded environments such as public transport or offices without affecting the main viewing experience. The leak suggests that this technology is being considered for flagship smartphones expected to launch around September this year.

Potential candidates could include upcoming premium devices from Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo, along with other high-end models arriving during the same period. So, there’s a possibility that the Xiaomi 18 series and Vivo X500 lineup, which are expected to debut in September in China, may come equipped with the said privacy feature.

What will the hardware-based privacy display feature offer?

Hardware-based privacy displays represent a shift from existing software solutions that rely on dimming or restricting notifications. By embedding privacy features directly into the panel, manufacturers may deliver better clarity while maintaining strong viewing protection.

Early reports indicate that advanced OLED control could allow selective reduction of viewing angles, ensuring only the primary user sees the content clearly. If successfully implemented, this feature could become an important differentiator for flagship smartphones, especially as users increasingly prioritise data protection and personal privacy.
