Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series key specifications emerge online

Last year, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in September, and it was followed by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in November. This year, too, the brand is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series in September.

A new leak by an online tipster has revealed that the lineup will include as many as three chipsets.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series details leaked

The official names of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series are not known yet. However, the leak suggests that these could be called Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 6. The Elite variants may debut first, probably in September, whereas the non-Elite variant may break cover a few weeks later.

The leak further reveals that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Elite Gen 6 have the model numbers SM8975 and SM8950, respectively. Both chips will reportedly be built using TSMC’s next-generation 2nm manufacturing process.

The SM8975 is tipped to feature a 2+3+3 CPU architecture, an Adreno 850 GPU with 18MB GMEM, and support for LPDDR6 or LPDDR5X memory, along with 8MB LLC. On the other hand, the SM8950 is said to offer a similar 2+3+3 CPU setup but with a slightly toned-down Adreno 845 GPU, 12MB GMEM, LPDDR5X support, and 6MB LLC, indicating a clear performance and memory bandwidth gap between the two chips.

The tipster further claims that the upcoming 2nm MediaTek Dimensity 9600 will be positioned between the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Gen 6 Pro in terms of performance. Reports suggest that the Dimensity 9600 will power the Vivo X500 series and Oppo Find X10 lineup, which are expected to launch in October.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is likely to be seen first on the Xiaomi 18 series, which may debut in September this year. The 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro may power Ultra-branded flagships and is also rumoured to feature in devices like the OnePlus 16, Redmi K100 Pro Max, and Poco F9 Ultra.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 6: What to expect?

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 is also said to be in the works. However, its specifications may not be as impressive as the Elite variants. This chip is likely to power the successors to the OnePlus Ace 6T, OnePlus 15R, iQOO Z11 Turbo, iQOO 15R, Vivo S50 Pro Mini, and Vivo X300 FE.
