Xiaomi 18 tipped to be world’s first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 phone

Smartphone brands are reportedly gearing up to launch their next-generation flagship phones later this year. Over the past few years, Xiaomi has consistently been the first brand to introduce phones powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8-series chipsets. Last year, it once again led the race by unveiling the Xiaomi 17 series, which debuted with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

Now, a new Weibo post from a reliable Chinese tipster suggests that Xiaomi may once again take the lead. According to the leak, the company could be preparing to launch the world’s first smartphone powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset.

Xiaomi 18 series’ early details emerge

Tipster Smart Pikachu claims that Xiaomi will not only be the first to launch Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset with the Xiaomi 18 series, but is also deeply involved in co-defining the platform in close collaboration with Qualcomm. Early reports suggest that the lineup will include the Xiaomi 18, Xiaomi 18 Pro, Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, and Xiaomi 18 Ultra.

Reports also indicate that the standard Xiaomi 18 will gain a couple of new features, such as a rear display and a periscope telephoto camera, which were unavailable on the Xiaomi 17. The series is expected to debut in China in September this year.

Just as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra was unveiled in December 2025, the Xiaomi 18 Ultra may debut by the end of this year. Reports suggest that this device will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip, which is said to be an enhanced version designed to power Ultra-branded flagships across different brands.

Xiaomi 17 series India launch draws near

At present, Xiaomi is said to be working on the global launch of the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Both devices are expected to debut in March in India and other markets. As a result, official teasers for the Xiaomi 17 series are expected to surface soon.
