Xiaomi begins stable HyperOS 3.1 rollout: Eligible devices, new features

Xiaomi has started rolling out the stable version of HyperOS 3.1, its latest Android-based software update, following several weeks of beta testing.

The update, built on Android 16, is arriving first on a handful of newly launched flagship devices, with a wider rollout expected in the coming weeks. Check out the list of eligible Xiaomi and Redmi devices getting HyperOS 3.1 and its new features.

For now, the update is limited to the following Xiaomi and Redmi devices:

– Xiaomi 17
– Xiaomi 17 Pro
– Xiaomi 17 Pro Max
– Redmi K90 Pro Max

As with most Xiaomi updates, China gets first dibs before the software gradually expands to global variants. The company has not provided an exact timeline for international availability yet, but historically these rollouts tend to spread to global markets shortly after the initial China release.

HyperOS 3.1: A quieter update focused on stability

HyperOS 3.1 is less about flashy features and more about tidying up the everyday experience. Much of the update focuses on stability fixes, visual refinements and small usability tweaks that make the interface feel a little smoother.

One of the visible changes is an improved gesture navigation indicator, which now displays more cleanly in certain scenarios. Xiaomi has also added support for stacking recent tasks in the launcher, making multitasking feel slightly more organised.

Under the hood, several system issues have been addressed. Xiaomi says it has fixed problems related to system sharing crashes, abnormal location display, file upload errors in some third-party apps, and occasional black screens that appeared after factory resets.

Connectivity issues, including rare cases where SIM cards weren’t recognised or AirPods struggled to connect, have also been patched.

Two of Xiaomi’s core apps are also getting attention in this update. Both the Gallery and Weather apps have reportedly been rebuilt using the Rust programming language, which is increasingly popular for performance-focused software.

In practical terms, this should mean smoother animations and fewer slowdowns while browsing photos or checking the forecast.

Other fixes target smaller irritations, including lag in the Smart Assistant negative screen, incorrect network icons appearing in the status bar, and problems opening certain files in dual-app scenarios.
