Recap has landed early again this year

YouTube Music 2025 Recap is here and it lets you chat with an AI

YouTube Music has started distributing its 2025 Recap to users right now and the highlight is a gen AI chat option that breaks down your year in music. The feature technically dropped a bit early since we still have over a month left in the year.

You can find the new tool by tapping your profile icon in the top right corner of the app and hitting the button labelled Your Recap on Android or iOS. It might not be there for everyone immediately since these rollouts take time and often appear in waves.

Deep insights into your taste

The biggest update this time around is the integration of the ‘Ask Music’ assistant. This allows you to type questions into a chatbot interface to get custom insights about your history. You can request the AI to describe your listening vibe as a weather report or ask it to invent five genres to explain your library.

Another prompt lets you find out if your year was more chill or hype. It drops a shareable graphic for every answer, which you can then share on your socials. You can even ask what animal matches your music taste or if you explored new music versus listening on repeat.

Standard stats are back as well. The app calculates your longest streak and shows your top five songs along with a top playlist covering September through November 2025.

There is also a feature called your musical bestie which highlights your top artist and shows a calendar of the specific days you played their tracks. And finally, a section called the musical passport tracks the different countries where your artists originate.

Of course, this trend was popularised by Spotify Wrapped and now Apple Music and Amazon Music do it too. But YouTube has decided to give it a unique spin by making it more conversational this time.
