Apple TV gets Cast support

Apple TV on Android just became a lot more useful; here’s how

Apple TV app on Android has received a notable update that addresses one of its most requested features since launch. While the app brought Apple’s streaming service to Android users earlier this year, a key convenience feature was missing. With the latest update now rolling out, Apple has added functionality that significantly improves how content can be watched on larger screens.

Apple TV on Android gets Google Cast support

Apple has officially added Google Cast support to the Apple TV app on Android, allowing users to stream shows and movies directly from their phones to compatible TVs and streaming devices. With this update, a Cast icon now appears within the app, making it possible to connect to Chromecast, Google TV, and other Cast-enabled devices.

Once connected, playback starts instantly, and users can control content directly from their smartphones. The casting experience includes familiar playback controls such as play, pause, rewind, fast-forward, subtitles, and audio settings.

Apple has also introduced a mini player during casting, which expands into a full-screen interface when needed. The feature is rolling out through version 2.2 of the Apple TV app via the Google Play Store and is already available on supported Android devices.

This update brings Apple TV closer to feature parity with other major streaming apps on Android. It also arrives at an interesting time, as some rival platforms have recently reduced Cast support. Apple TV’s growing catalogue, including popular originals and live sports content in select regions, makes this addition particularly useful for Android users who prefer watching on larger displays.

Steps on how to use Google Cast on Apple TV app

Step 1: Update the Apple TV app on your Android phone or tablet to version 2.2 from the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Open the app and tap the Cast icon located at the top right of the screen.

Step 3: Select your preferred Chromecast or Google TV device from the list.

Step 4:  Start playing a show or movie and control playback directly from your phone.

With Google Cast now supported, Apple TV becomes far easier to integrate into existing Android and smart TV setups. The update removes the need for workarounds and makes switching from phone to TV seamless.
