Apple Vision Pro with M5 launched with faster AI performance, 120Hz refresh rate

Back in February 2024, Apple launched its first XR (Extended Reality) headset called the Vision Pro. Now, the brand has announced an updated version of the Vision Pro, powered by the all-new M5 chip. This is a significant upgrade considering that the first-generation model came with the M2 chip. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Vision Pro.

Apple Vision Pro with M5: Specs and features

With the Apple M5 chip onboard, the new Apple Vision Pro brings up to 50 percent improvement in AI performance and twice the speed on third-party apps. The chip also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading, delivering realistic visual effects while gaming. It continues to feature the R1 chip, which processes data from Vision Pro’s built-in twelve cameras, five sensors, and six microphones.

The Vision Pro with M5 also promises sharper images and text as it can render 10 percent more pixels on its micro-OLED displays. While the previous generation supported a 100Hz refresh rate, the new Vision Pro now offers up to 120Hz, reducing motion blur and providing a smoother experience while using Mac Virtual Display.

It runs on macOS Tahoe, which comes with deeper integration with Apple Intelligence. It also brings improvements in battery life, promising up to 3 hours of video playback and 2.5 hours of general use.

This optional accessory is priced at $99 (~Rs 8,690) and is compatible with the first-generation Vision Pro.

Apple Vision Pro with M5: Price and availability

Apple Vision Pro is priced at $3,499 (~Rs 3,07,210) in the US. Pre-orders are live, with sales set to begin on October 22.

Apple did not release the first-generation Vision Pro in India. Therefore, there’s no clarity on whether the new M5 variant will be sold in the country.
