Best 32-inch and 40-inch TVs you can buy in 2025

It might seem that the difference between a 32-inch TV and a 40-inch one largely comes down to size. While this is true to a large extent, there are some other important compromises to bear in mind. Resolution, speaker quality, build quality, and even features, all of these play significant roles.

Let’s take a closer look at a couple of such TVs to understand these differences better.

Where you lose out, versus a larger TV, is in screen resolution. The 32-inch TV is labelled as HD Ready, which means the resolution comes to 1366×768. In other words, the TV is rendering a little over one million pixels per frame at a pixel density of 49 PPI.

Croma 40-inch TV

This one offers much the same features as you’ll find in the 32-inch model and is one of the best 40-inch TVs you can buy. It retails at a higher price – Rs 16,999 – but offers a sharper display. This TV renders a 1920×1080 or Full HD image, which translates to a little over two million pixels at a pixel density of 55 PPI. This larger panel also supports HDR 10, which should translate to more vibrant and immersive colours with supported media.

You can get higher resolution 32-inch TVs or lower resolution 40-inch TVs, but the price goes up or down accordingly.

Differences between a 32-inch TV and a 40-inch TV

As can be seen from the specs, the differences largely come down to image quality, but it’s not that simple.

The 32-inch TV is rendering a million fewer pixels than the 40-inch TV, but the pixel density (number of pixels per inch, a measure of image sharpness) is very similar. In real-world use, you won’t easily be able to tell these TVs apart, especially if you’re sitting 6-8 feet away from the TV.

This lower resolution also offers some benefits to gaming, where an older or weaker consol,e like an Xbox Series S will be able to deliver a smoother gaming experience.

The large TV on the other hand, thanks to the higher PPI and HDR support, allows you to sit further away while rendering a slightly cleaner, slightly more immersive image. It will also let you take better advantage of more powerful game consoles. Also note that while both TVs feature similar audio setups, the slightly wider sound-stage of the 40-inch TV can be beneficial if you sit closer to the TV.

At the end of the day, the TV you choose comes down to personal preference. As a rule of thumb, we recommend going for the largest TV that fits your budget as televisions are meant to be experienced at a distance.
