Focus modes on your tablet to help you make the most of your study time

If you’re a student, you probably use your tablet for everything, beginning from gaming, music, browsing and streaming (and coursework, of course!). In fact, tablets today are a powerhouse of features and have a variety of apps available for use. But every now and then, there’s a glaring need to disconnect to be able to concentrate on what truly needs attention.

So, if you’re looking for some midweek motivation to get started, we have some simple ways to help you focus on what’s crucial. Whether you’re an Android or iOS user, there’s a simple way to use focus modes on both variants.

How to use focus mode on your Android tablets

If you’re an Android user, you can switch on the Digital Wellbeing app to put a tab on your screen time. From tracking your time online, it can also set timers on certain apps to remind you that it’s time to switch off.

Screen time goal: You can set yourself a goal to ensure you stay within your decided usage. All you have to do is visit Settings > Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls. Under this option, you can choose to set your desired timeframe. What’s more, you can even review your patterns and apps that consume the most screen time on a week-on-week basis.

Setting app timers: Under the same tab, you will also find an option to set timers on selected apps. This setting displays a list of apps in a drop-down menu, where you can select the one you wish to track with a timer.

Sleep mode: Previously known as the ‘bedtime’ or ‘wind down’ mode, this feature reminds you to switch off well in time for bed. You can find this within Settings Modes and Routines > Sleep. On clicking Start, you can set a time for yourself based on your bedtime.

How to use focus mode on your iOS tablets

For iPad users, Focus is a setting you can toggle as and when required. Nevertheless, we have a Focus 101 for you if you need a crash course for the feature! iOS users can select between various activities to help them concentrate throughout the day. Depending on the mode you select, Focus can silence notifications or block them out for the time frame you select for yourself.

Setting up Focus on your iPad: Like your iPhone, you can set up Focus on your iPad as a first-time user via Settings. Beginning from choosing which apps can notify you during your working hours to choosing contacts that are allowed to connect with you, there’s a lot you can achieve using this feature. You can modify Do Not DisturbSleepPersonal or Work Focus settings accordingly. On clicking on either of these, you can allow your chosen contacts and specified apps to connect with you during your focus hours.

In addition to all these, you can also choose a cleaner, minimalistic home screen to ensure zero distraction during your set study time. However, you don’t have to worry about missing important notifications, as the app will show you all the notifications after your Focus hours are over. Lastly, if you need a different preset mode, you can customise one based on your usage.

Whether you wish to tune out your favourite apps that could be a distraction during your study hours or take some time off to dedicate some time to the books, these settings could help you stay laser-focused toward your goal without switching off your device or the internet.
