4 ways to tell if someone has blocked you on Instagram

There could be various reasons why one may decide to block someone on Instagram, such as privacy concerns, spamming, personal preferences, conflicts of interest, and other factors. If someone has blocked you on Instagram, you should ideally respect their decision. However, you might be curious to know why they blocked you.

Regardless of whether you are using Instagram on the web or in a smartphone app, Instagram does not notify you when someone blocks you. For those who don’t know, a blocked person will not be able to message, find the profile, or view the content of the person who blocked them on Instagram.

However, there are a few workarounds available to assist you in determining whether someone has blocked you.

4 ways verify if someone has blocked you on Instagram

1. Search the username on Instagram

2. Sing existing conversations or comments to access profile

3. Visit Instagram profile on the web

4. Use a different Instagram account

1. Search the username on Instagram

If you search for a username (or ID) on Instagram and don’t find their account, it indicates that the user has either deactivated their account or blocked you. If the user hasn’t blocked you, you can view the profile in the search result.

Readers should be aware of the fact that Instagram allows users to change their usernames. If the person you are searching for on Instagram has changed their username, you will not see their account in the search results. In this scenario, you have not been blocked.

2. Using existing conversations or comments to access profile

Once you have been blocked by someone on Instagram, you cannot comment on their posts or send a direct message. However, if someone blocks you, their older comments and conversations stay intact.

This means you can try finding their previous comments or direct messages to view their profile. Once you reach the profile and see “This Account Is Private” mentioned on it, it means their account is set to private mode, and they have control over who can see their posts.

This implies that you can no longer follow them. Only when you are followed again, you be able to view their posts.   If you see “No posts Yet,” it means you have been blocked. Sometimes, it may also show the “User Not Found” banner.

3. Visit Instagram profile on the web

If you know the username of the account, you can simply visit the profile page on the web via a laptop or your smartphone. This can be done by typing www.instagram.com/(username) into the web browser’s address bar. If it shows the message “Sorry, this page isn’t available,” it indicates that the profile has been deleted or you have been blocked.

You can rule out whether the account has been deleted or not by logging out of Instagram and accessing the account link again. If the account does not exist, it will show the same message. However, if the account is active, you will be able to see the profile, which suggests that you have been blocked.

4. Use a different Instagram account

You can login to a different Instagram account and try all the above steps. Considering that the username has not been changed, if the profile appears in the search, it indicates that you have been blocked. If the profile does not appear in search, it suggests that the profile may have been deleted or the username may have been modified.

In case you were not aware, when someone blocks you, the person also gets blocked from your side automatically. Now that you know the steps to perform to check whether someone has blocked you, you can put them to the test. Once you are certain that someone has blocked you, you seek assistance from a mutual contact to request their unblocking.

If you think you did something wrong, you can genuinely apologise through mutual contact or through a different platform. Nevertheless, you should respect the other person’s decision to block, as there could be reasons that you may not be aware of.
