How to know if someone has blocked you on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is possibly the primary mode of communication for most of us. We could even go as far as saying that a lot of us don’t rely on calling someone up and only stay in touch via WhatsApp messages on our smartphones.

In fact, with multiple new features and elements being added to the platform, it is no surprise that a lot of us have turned to it for our day-to-day chats. That said, there’s also no way to keep track in case someone loses contact with you or, worse, blocks you without notice. If you’ve found yourself in a similar situation, we’re here to help. Here are a few ways to tell if someone has blocked you on WhatsApp.

3 sure-shot ways to tell if you've been blocked on WhatsApp

Unlike other meta-owned platforms like Facebook or Instagram, your WhatsApp contact will not immediately show ‘user not found’ or disable the chat box. This, however, makes it difficult to know who has blocked your contact on the app. But there are a few other ways that you could resort to and come to a conclusion.

You can’t see their profile photo and status: Sure, there are plenty of reasons why you can’t see your contact’s profile photo. They could have turned it off for their audience; they may have even restricted the audience that could see or could have simply lost your contact details.

But if you’re blocked on WhatsApp, you’re likely not going to see any updates on their status, story or display picture. Additionally, you will not also be able to see if the contact is online, as WhatsApp policy protects the user’s privacy post blocking.

Your messages will not be delivered: A blocked WhatsApp chat will not receive your messages. When you send a message to someone who has blocked you, you will notice your communication being delivered with a single tick mark. This indicates that your message has been sent, but the user hasn’t received it.

Calls will not go through: WhatsApp calls are a tap away on the app, and just like messages, a lot of us rely on them to connect with our loved ones near or far away. However, if you’re ever wondering if someone has blocked you, the easiest way to tell would involve trying to place a call. If your calls don’t go through on WhatsApp, it is a clear indicator that the user may have blocked your contact.

Keep in mind that a lot of these, in rare cases, may be caused because of poor network connectivity. But in those circumstances, you might be able to get in touch with them within a short span of time.
