How to set up a smart AC

Summer is here, and with it, of course, the warm weather. Perhaps a little warmer than we may like. Naturally, many of you may currently be in the process of purchasing new air conditioners, fans, and coolers for your homes, if you don’t have them already.

Now, ACs these days aren’t just another plug-and-play device. In recent years, along with TVs and refrigerators, ACs too have jumped onto the “smart” bandwagon. Chances are, if you’re in the market for a new AC, or have just purchased one, you’ve likely gotten a smart AC. Now, buying a smart AC and installing it, is only half the job done. The next step is to set it up.

Luckily, this is where we step in, for we’re here with a quick and easy step-by-step guide to tell you how to go about the same.

Steps to set up a smart AC

Before we go ahead, bear in mind – the setup process for each smart AC may vary a bit, depending on the make and model. However, broadly, this is how you go about setting up a smart AC.

1. Depending on the AC’s brand, download the corresponding remote control app for the AC onto your smartphone, either via Apple’s App Store, or the Google Play Store. (A few examples of these apps are Samsung’s SmartThings app, LG’s ThinQ app, Daikin’s AC Manager – India, and the Voltas Smart app.)

2. Next, create an account on the app if required, and sign in.

3. At this stage, ensure your phone is connected to your home or office Wi-Fi network.

4. Select your AC model on the app, and ensure the AC is turned on.

5. Once you’ve done this, follow the on-screen prompts to connect your AC to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone.

6. At this stage, your smart AC should be paired to your phone. You can now change the temperature of the AC, schedule times for the AC to turn on and off, change cooling modes, and much more.

7. Some smart ACs also allow for you to sync them with your smart home assistants, which in essence, allows you to control them using nothing but your voice.

Why should you invest in a smart AC?

Smart ACs are pretty much like regular ACs, except for one crucial difference – they can be controlled remotely, via your smartphones and tablets, or even your smart home assistant.

They come with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. As long as the AC and your phone are connected to the same network, you can use the latter to control the AC’s temperature, schedule it to switch on and off at a particular time, and more. What’s more, smart ACs can also self-diagnose and the AC also sends you alerts in case they develop any issues, or say, if they are due for a service or a filter change anytime soon.
