How to set up voicemail on Android phones

Be it to stay away from other engagements or to take a break without worrying about missing important calls, voicemails are a real savior. Having your voicemail activated allows you to forward calls to another number, to save recorded calls that you couldn’t pick up and more. If you are wondering how to set up voicemail on your Android phone, let’s help you through the process.

How to set up voicemail on an Android phone

Follow the steps below to set up voicemail on your Android phone.

1. Open Settings

2. Go to Call Settings

3. Tap on Voicemail setup

4. Select carrier

5. Enter voicemail number

6. Dial 1

7. Follow the voice command prompt

1. Open Settings

Search Settings app from your Android phone and open the app.

2. Go to Call Settings

Under the Settings app, you will find the Call Settings. Depending on the phone, you might find the Call Settings option inside the Network Settings menu sometimes.

3. Tap on Voicemail setup

Under the Call Settings option, look for the Voicemail option. You may also find it by similar names like Voicemail settings, Voicemail setup, or simply Setup.

4. Select carrier

Select the carrier under the voicemail service. In India, voicemails are inexpensive if you are using an Airtel, or a Vodafone sim card (regular calling rates). If you have a BSNL carrier, you will be charged Rs 2.00 for call forwarding and even voicemail. Unfortunately, Jio doesn’t have any voicemail services at the time of filing this story.

5. Enter voicemail number

Select the voicemail number option and enter the number where you want your voicemails to reach. It can be either your mobile number or someone else’s number who is accessible to listen to the records.

After you have entered the mobile number, you will get a pop-up saying, ‘Voicemail number changed’. Tap on OK.

6. Dial 1

Open the dialer keypad of your Android phone and dial 1. This call will be directed to the voicemail service of your selected carrier.

7. Follow voice command prompt

You will get a voice command of a PIN or a password on call asking you to enter it. Once you enter the PIN, you will be asked to record your name clearly. You also need to add a voice message which you want your callers to hear when you are not answering. You can either choose the message from the default settings or record your own when prompted by the voice command. Once the process is completed, the voicemail facility will be successfully set.

Now that the voicemail is set on your Android phone, be reachable always to your friends and colleagues.
