How to watch live TV on your smartphone

While it’s not possible to have TV content stream directly to your mobile phone the way old TVs used to pick up a cable signal, modern smartphones do have access to high-speed internet thanks to widespread 4G and 5G coverage. Couple this with a plethora of apps that stream TV as well as live TV, and you’re now in a position to watch live TV on your smartphone.

How to watch live TV on your mobile device

The simplest solution is to figure out which channel or event you want to watch live and to then figure out which streaming or OTT service provider offers the channel via an app.

Some options for this include:

JioTV: With 1000+ live TV channels, you’re bound to find something you like here

Tata Play: If you have a Tata Play subscription, you’ll be able to access dozens of streaming TV channels on the platform.

Sony Liv: Similar to Tata Play, all you need is the right app to access a tonne of channels that livestream content

You also have options from Airtel, Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer, and more.

Another option is to go directly to the service provider for the content you want to stream live.

For example, if you’re a fan of Formula 1 racing, you can subscribe to F1 TV directly for an enhanced experience, or subscribe to a service like FanCode for TV-like coverage on your device.

Note that not all apps allow video recording, however, as streaming apps do tend to incorporate some level of DRM protection (digital rights management).

Sign up for the right service, install the app, and you can enjoy streaming TV content anywhere in the world.
