OnePlus 16’s periscope telephoto camera may arrive with major upgrade

Recent reports have revealed that the OnePlus 16 will arrive with some major upgrades over the OnePlus 15. Now, a new update from OnePlus Club, which is known for leaking details about upcoming OnePlus phones, suggests that the OnePlus 16’s periscope telephoto camera will receive a significant upgrade. Here’s a look at what the new leak has revealed.

OnePlus 16 to feature a new periscope telephoto camera

As per the source, while the OnePlus 15 features a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/2.75-inch sensor, its successor is said to adopt a new 200MP camera with a larger 1/1.56-inch sensor.

While the source has not mentioned the sensor’s name, recent reports suggest that the OnePlus 16 could be equipped with a 200MP Samsung HP5 periscope telephoto camera. If accurate, this upgrade could translate into significantly improved zoom clarity, better light intake, and enhanced computational zoom performance compared to the current model.

OnePlus 16 specifications (rumoured)

As far as other specifications are concerned, the OnePlus 16 could be equipped with a new 6.78-inch BOE X5 OLED panel offering a 1.5K resolution along with an increased refresh rate of 240Hz. Under the hood, it may feature the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro SoC.

The OnePlus 16 may pack a 9,000mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging support. It is expected to run OxygenOS 17 based on Android 17. As for the camera setup, the rear system may include a 50MP or 200MP main camera, an ultra-wide lens, and the upgraded periscope camera mentioned above.

Early reports suggest that the OnePlus 16 may launch in October this year in China. Like the previous generation, it may debut in India by November.
