One of the major changes that Apple is working on for the MacBook series is the introduction of OLED screen models in the coming years. The reason behind this move is that MacBook models have been sporting nearly the same design since the company released the M1 Pro and M1 Max editions back in 2021.
Last month, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed that the OLED MacBook Pro, said to be in the works, will feature a much-awaited redesigned look. Now, a new report from the same source has revealed more details about Apple’s plans for the revamped MacBook Pro.
MacBook Pro with M6 Pro, M6 Max to sport new design
According to the report, the OLED MacBook Pro will come with touchscreen support. For those unaware, an OLED screen can deliver deeper blacks, higher contrast, and more accurate colours than a mini-LED panel.
The current MacBook Pro has a notch that houses a 1080p FaceTime HD camera along with other sensors. This is likely to be replaced by a Dynamic Island-style cutout, similar to the ones seen on recent iPhones, on the OLED MacBook Pro.
None of the currently available MacBook models offer 5G connectivity, but this could be included in the upcoming OLED MacBook Pro. The report states that only the MacBook Pro models powered by the next-generation M6 Pro and M6 Max chips will come with the new design and upgraded features mentioned above. Gurman claimed that these models are expected to be announced between late 2026 and early 2027.
Apple’s MacBook lineup for 2026
The report also mentions that Apple plans to launch MacBook Pro models powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, along with a MacBook Air with the M5 chip, in the first half of 2026.
By mid-2026, the Cupertino-based company is expected to introduce Mac Mini models featuring the M5 and M5 Pro chips, as well as Mac Studio models powered by the M5 Max and M5 Ultra editions. Towards the end of 2026, Apple may unveil a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip. This model will retain the existing design, unlike the redesigned M6 Pro and M6 Max versions, which are expected to arrive later.
