What Samsung phones will get the One UI 8.5 update

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series, which is expected to launch by the end of February, may come preinstalled with the all-new One UI 8.5 based on Android 16. While One UI 8.5 may sound like an incremental upgrade, beta versions rolled out to select devices suggest that it could be a major update.

The South Korean tech giant is expected to roll out the One UI 8.5 update to multiple devices. Here’s a look at the eligible devices list, release timeline, and key features.

Here’s a list of Samsung devices that are expected to receive the One UI 8.5 update:

Galaxy S series

The One UI 8.5 update is expected to roll out to several generations of Galaxy S models. This includes the Galaxy S25 lineup, comprising the Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 FE, and S25 Edge. Eligible models also extend to the Galaxy S24 family with the Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, and S24 FE, as well as the Galaxy S23 series, including the Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, and S23 FE.

Older flagships such as the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra are also on the list, along with the Galaxy S21 FE.

Galaxy Z series foldables

Samsung’s foldable smartphones are also expected to receive One UI 8.5. This includes the latest Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.

Earlier foldables such as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are included as well, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, and even the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4.

Galaxy A series

The Galaxy A lineup’s eligible models include the Galaxy A73 at the higher end, followed by the Galaxy A56, A55, A54, and A53. Mid-range and budget devices such as the Galaxy A36, A35, A34, and A33 are also included, alongside the Galaxy A26, A25, and A24.

Entry-level options like the Galaxy A17, A16, and A15 in both LTE and 5G variants are covered, along with the Galaxy A07 and Galaxy A06 in LTE and 5G versions.

Galaxy F and Galaxy M series

One UI 8.5 is also expected to reach Samsung’s Galaxy F and Galaxy M series smartphones. Eligible Galaxy F models include the Galaxy F56, F55, F54, F36, and F34, along with the Galaxy F17, F16, F15, F07, and F06.

On the Galaxy M side, supported devices include the Galaxy M56, M55s, M55, M54, and M53, as well as the Galaxy M36, M34, and M33. Budget-focused models such as the Galaxy M17, M16, M15, M07, and M06 are also part of the update list.

Galaxy XCover and Galaxy Tab series

Rugged devices such as the Galaxy XCover 7, XCover 7 Pro, and XCover 6 Pro are expected to receive One UI 8.5 as well.

Samsung’s tablet lineup is also included, spanning the Galaxy Tab S10, Tab S9, and Tab S8 families across standard, Plus, Ultra, and FE variants. Other eligible tablets include the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024), Galaxy Tab A11 and A11+, Galaxy Tab A9 and A9+, and the Galaxy Tab Active 5 and Active 5 Pro.

Samsung One UI 8.5: Release timeline

Samsung has not officially announced a release timeline for the One UI 8.5 update. However, the company has been testing the update on multiple devices, and some smartphones, such as the Galaxy S25 series, have already received beta builds. This suggests that Samsung is currently focused on ironing out bugs and refining the overall experience.

The stable version of One UI 8.5 is expected to roll out starting in March, after the Galaxy S26 series launch. It will likely arrive first on newer devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 SE, followed by the Galaxy S25 lineup. Other eligible devices are expected to receive the update gradually over the coming months, with a broader rollout likely to be completed by the end of the year.

Samsung One UI 8.5: Key features

Samsung’s One UI 8.5 introduces a major “Liquid Glass” visual overhaul, featuring frosted glass effects, redesigned 3D app icons, and a fully customisable Quick Settings panel that allows users to resize and rearrange toggles freely.

Productivity enhancements include a new Storage Share feature for seamless cross-device file access and a smarter Bixby assistant that integrates Perplexity AI for natural language processing, along with new “Bixby Live” conversational modes.

The update also significantly expands Galaxy AI capabilities with “Now Nudges” for proactive on-screen suggestions and an improved Photo Assist tool that supports continuous image generation without needing to save each edit. Security improvements include Android 16’s theft protection, partial screen recording for added privacy, and a new “Privacy Protection” feature that automatically blurs sensitive document information during sharing.
