How to chat with Meta AI on WhatsApp

Instant messaging platform WhatsApp recently introduced an update which will now allow users to chat directly with Meta’s AI bot. The feature was recently introduced by Meta, and is currently only available in limited countries, India being one of them.

The chatbot facilitates a great way to initiate conversations and generate ideas, without leaving the instant messaging app. Here’s everything you might need to know about the update.

What is Meta AI and how does it work?

Meta quietly rolled out its chatbot earlier this week, powered with artificial intelligence, to Instagram and WhatsApp users. Apart from fetching real-time information and generating images, as well as text, the bot even prevents users from looking up sensitive topics or answering controversial questions.

The chatbot comes powered with Llama 2 with Meta’s Large Language Model (LLM) research. The platform has further partnered with Microsoft Bing search to provide relevant information and links when prompted. However, for now, it can only do so much and is still not equipped to receive voice prompts or reply like OpenAI’s ChatGPT can.

A step-by-step guide to chat with Meta AI on WhatsApp

If the feature is available within your region and app, you can follow the below-mentioned steps to begin chatting with Meta’s AI bot.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your smartphone

Step 2: From your chat screen, tap on New Chat and select ‘Meta AI’

Step 3: If you’re using it for the first time, you might be prompted to accept the terms and conditions; tap on yes after going through them.

Step 4: Once you’re done with this step, you can begin writing your prompts or questions like a regular conversation.

Meta AI also encourages you to discuss your interests, and hobbies and can respond to a wide range of topics.

How to use Meta AI on a WhatsApp group chat

In addition to the steps mentioned above, you can also use Meta AI on your group chats. The answers generated by the bot will be visible to everyone in the conversation.

All you have to do is tap the ‘@’ symbol and tag ‘Meta AI’ with your question or prompt. Meta AI will provide a response based on the communication and group members can read or react to it if required. However, it is crucial to note that the bot will only be able to read prompts that have the Meta AI mention.

While most users have received this update, WhatsApp will gradually roll it out and make it available for both Android and iOS smartphone users.
