Samsung currently offers two types of foldables: book-style and flip-style designs. Reports now suggest that the brand is also working on another foldable device featuring a wider form factor. While its official name remains under wraps, the device is being tentatively referred to as the Galaxy Wide or Wide Galaxy Z Fold.
Recently, details of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 were spotted in One UI 9 builds. Now, a report by Android Authority has revealed fresh information about Samsung’s wide Galaxy Z Fold, along with a first glimpse at its design.
Samsung’s unique foldable phone to take on Apple’s foldable
Reports indicate that Apple’s first foldable phone, tentatively dubbed the iPhone Fold, could be announced in September this year. The device is expected to feature a different foldable design compared to current offerings in the market. It is said to have a wider form factor when closed and unfolds into a tablet-like display.
The rumoured wide Galaxy Z Fold is believed to be positioned as a rival to Apple’s foldable phone. According to the publication, the Samsung device carries the codename H8 and the model number SM-F971U. An animation source discovered within One UI 9 APK files reportedly showcases a design language similar to what is expected from Apple’s foldable phone.
While full specifications remain unknown, the wider outer display and expanded internal screen appear to be key highlights of this new foldable approach.
Expected launch timeframe
Samsung has not officially confirmed the existence of the wide Galaxy Z Fold. However, some reports claim that it could be showcased alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, which are expected to launch in July this year. These devices are also tipped to be the first to ship with One UI 9 preinstalled. While it may get showcased in July, it may hit the stores several weeks later.
Meanwhile, Samsung is preparing for its Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for February 25. The event is expected to see the debut of the Galaxy S26 series and the Galaxy Buds 4 lineup.
