Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone Fold with a unique wide folding design in September this year. However, before that, Samsung may introduce its own version.
While the official name remains unclear, it is being referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. Recently, AndroidHeadlines collaborated with OnLeaks to reveal CAD renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and now the same duo has shared the first look at this wider foldable variant.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Wide CAD renders
The newly leaked CAD renders of the Galaxy Z Fold Wide indicate a noticeable shift in design compared to the standard Fold lineup. It appears shorter and broader, with a form factor that leans closer to a compact tablet when unfolded.
The dimensions are said to be around 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9mm in the open state and 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8mm when folded. The camera bump reportedly increases thickness to 14.6mm.
The design also suggests a dual rear camera setup, which is a departure from the triple camera system typically seen on premium Fold devices. The wider aspect ratio could improve usability for apps, media consumption, and multitasking.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Wide specifications (rumoured)
On the hardware front, the Galaxy Z Fold Wide is expected to share much of its internals with the regular Fold 8. This includes a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, paired with up to 16GB RAM and storage options going up to 1TB.
The foldable display is tipped to measure 7.6 inches, while the cover screen could be around 5.4 inches. A 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging support is also expected. Some reports hint at a 200-megapixel primary camera along with a secondary ultra-wide sensor, though details remain uncertain at this stage.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Wide launch timeframe (rumoured)
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is likely to debut alongside the standard Fold 8 and Flip 8 at Samsung’s summer Unpacked event in July. Pricing is expected to be close to flagship foldable levels, potentially aligning with Apple’s upcoming foldable strategy.
