Samsung has been launching smartwatches with cellular connectivity for quite a white. The currently available watches come with LTE connectivity support. A new report by GalaxyClub reveals that the forthcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will be Samsung’s first smartwatch to support 5G connectivity.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2: All that’s known so far
Samsung launched its most premium and highly durable Galaxy Watch Ultra in 2024. Unlike other Samsung watches, this one did not have a Bluetooth-only version at launch as it only came with LTE connectivity. Last year, the brand unveiled the 2025 edition, which came with minor upgrades.
The brand is now working on the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, which may break cover in July this year. According to the above-mentioned publication, the Watch Ultra 2 with model number SM-L716 will have support for 5G connectivity. The inclusion of 5G support promises improved call quality and faster data speeds.
Samsung recently revealed that it has worked with Qualcomm to power its upcoming smartwatches with the recently announced Snapdragon Wear Elite. Therefore, this chip is most likely to power the Watch Ultra 2.
The 3nm chip is also add features like Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB (ultra-wideband), and NB-NTN for calls and tests via satellite connection. Unfortunately, there is no other information about the other specs of the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 launch timeframe (rumoured)
As mentioned above, Samsung is expected to hold a major launch event in July this year. It is expected to see the arrival of foldable phones, such as Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8, and a new Galaxy Wide Fold. The same event may see the launch of the Galaxy Watch 9 series and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
